Marc Clémeur

Marc Clémeur was born in Antwerp, Belgium. After earning a degree in Theater and Music Studies at the University of Cologne, he worked as an assistant director with Götz Friedrich and others in Bayreuth. Beginning in 1977, Marc Clémeur worked as a classical music producer for Belgian radio and television. Starting in 1984, he led the Royal Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra; in 1989, he became the Artistic Director of the Vlaamse Opera, which achieved an international reputation under his direction. From 2009 to 2017 Marc Clémeur was director of the Opéra national du Rhin, Strasbourg, now appointed as honorary director.
