Artistic Director of the Young Artists Program, Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow
Dmitry Vdovin was born in 1962 in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
In 1984 Mr. Vdovin graduated from the Russian Academy of Theatrical Arts (Moscow) and Moscow Choral Academy.
From 1986-1992 , Mr. Vdovin was a music and opera critic, writing for many of Moscow's most influential newspapers and periodicals.
Between 1987 and 1992, he was the head of Opera department of the USSR Theatrical Union.
In 1992, Mr. Vdovin became the head of the Moscow Music and Theatre Center, the artistic agency that coordinated between Russian International Opera Companies and concert organizations.
In 1996 Mr. Vdovin became the permanent assistant to the renowned Russian mezzo-soprano Irina Arkhipova as a voice teacher and artistic director of her summer school.
From 2000 to 2005, he was the head of the vocal department of the Gnessin State College of Music, also a voice teacher at Gnessins Academy of Music (1999 - 2001). From 2001 to 2003 he served as the chair of the vocal department of the State Choral Academy, where he is currently a professor of the voice.
Mr. Vdovin has given master classes all over Russia including Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as in the USA, France, Belgium, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Poland, Switzerland.
In 2012, he was "The Person of the Year" from the music magazine Musikalnoe Obozrenie, (Musical Review.)
Since 2000, he serves as the Artistic Director and teacher at the Moscow International School of Vocal Art, where there are participating voice teachers, coaches and artistic managers from Russia, USA, Italy and Great Britain.
Guest teacher of Houston Grand Opera Studio (2002-2008) and Zurich Opera Int. Studio (since 2015)
He has been on the jury panel of the Glinka International Vocal Competition (2003, 2005, 2007), XI Tchaikovsky Int. Competition (executive secretary, 1998), Three Centuries of Art Songs competition in St.Petersbourg (2010), All Russian State Music Contest (2010, 2014), Viotti/Pavarotti International Music Competition (Vercelli, Italy, 2010), Competizione dell'Opera Italiana (2011), Bordeaux-Medoc International Competition in France (2011-2014), Grand Opera -TV Kultura Contest (2011, 2013), Montreal International Music Competition (2012), Paris Opera Competition (2014,2015) and the Izmir Young Singers Competition (2013).
Dmitry Vdovin is the artistic director, the principal voice teacher, and a founder of the Young Artist Program of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia (2009 - present).
Mr. Vdovin's students have won many important international competitions, such as Placido Domingo's Operalia, Fransisco Vinas, Queen Elizabeth, Queen Sonja, Neue Stimmen, Shizuoka, Tchaikovsky, Glinka, Dvorak, and have became principal artists at renowned opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Opera de Paris, Royal Covent Garden, Wiener and Berliner Staats Oper, Real in Madrid and many others.
